I am hoping that this piece allows for the audience to take a breath and check in with their own mental health in the moment. We take for granted that we walk around in the world carrying so much and sometimes it just takes the validation of knowing you are not alone and it is ok to feel what you are feeling, pause, and take a breath. I hope this piece makes you feel seen, in all the love, hurt, sadness, incredible joy, and so much more that this world has to offer.
Bio.
As a Brazilian American artist, raised in Los Angeles CA, Toledo is invested in the stories of the communities surrounding her. City life can be such a drain on our emotional and mental everyday life while also simultaneously filling us constantly with the joy of art and community. This piece attempts to explore the many faces of mental health and the ways that we can continue to support one another through the constantly evolving world of the inner city. This pandemic has brought with it so many social justice movements that have continued to evoke all sorts of experiences on the spectrum of mental health, and this piece is a bit of Toledo’s and the dancer’s experiences.
